December 28--Roatan From Brian

Kathy, Drew and I did not plan an excursion for today.   We thought that we'd walk around a few shops and head back to the ship.  As we exited the gates of the pier, I was overwhelmed by the mod of people wanting to offer us their services.  First impression was that it wasn't safe.  We joined another couple and went to the first trinket store.  When we went to the next store, a young man about Drews age started following us and talking with us.  After a few minutes, I gave him a $5 and asked for him to show us around (the store).  He ended up walking us into town and telling us about the town and shops (from churches to hooker bars).  We spent several hours with him and finished with a drink.  We went back to the ship and he took Drew to the zipline.  Drew decided not to do the zipline so Oscar, the young man, took Drew on an extended tour of the town showing him his home and introducing him to his family.  It was an interesting day to see the culture and the very poor community of Roatan.
